Captain America Fits This Blog. It's a Bore!

Captain America perfectly fits this blog. It is a bore! It doesn't help that we watched it not in iMax. Thou in digital 3D. But with or without the fanfare of it (the 3D and the iMax), this movie, to say the least is wanting. We can always understand Transformers or Fast and the Furious for not having strong stories. Because their selling point is its action scenes. And hell yeah! ,they're giving it fully. But with Captain America, you don't even have a decent action sequence. Okay, that's an exaggeration. But it is not satisfactory. There are many action scenes that remind me it is just a movie. It's special effects is too mediocre for a superhero movie. And it lacks imagination.

State of the Nation Address (SONA). Just like any other year. Accomplishment report and promises. GDP, crime rate, economy, forex, foreign investments, etc. But do we have better lives despite all the government's "accomplishments"? And yes, some will insist that we should not be putting the burden to government our personal success. It is our persistence and handwork that will count in the end. But an admin that seems lacking in leadership, balls, sound judgment and imagination (or at least sustaining power for symbolism and showmanship) is wanting.
I was browsing my old files this morning when I saw an old article of my San Beda classmate, Herdy Yumul. It saw print in the Philippine Daily Inquirer and in Bob Ong's book during that time. Erap's time. It courted some flak and reactions were mixed. Thou I don't agree with all his points, I must say that what he said was sound, interesting and most importantly sincere. Some comments were logical and had some good perspective even in disagreement. But some were outright shallow that they can't and don't even bother to read even simple in-between-the-lines stance.
Anyway, going back to government.. I wonder how things change after some elections. And in lieu of today's SONA of accomplishments and another set of promises, here's the article of Herdy (with his permission of courz) :

My friend Zee (whom we called amo) have this idea for a music video and will join a lomography contest. Yours truly shot and cut the vid and now I'm posting it with her permission. It is entitled my daily bore.
We used the music of Jeepney Joyride, "We Don't Want to be Famous". Yes, with permission.
We used the music of Jeepney Joyride, "We Don't Want to be Famous". Yes, with permission.
Let's leave the digital grind behind! (Yeah, like this one! haha :)) ,and go outdoors! Feel the sun. Dance in the rain. Smell the pollution. Make some noise. Travel. Shoot some pics. Smile. See the people around. Hug trees. And pee on it?
Let's all eat, drink and be merry 'cause tomorrow we will die! :)

Bishops and SUVs, the telenovela

In the senate inquiry, Bishop Puebles said “My actions have been misconstrued . . . cast a shadow of uncertainty on my dignity and moral ascendancy as a bishop.” And he also stressed that it was “service to the public” that motivated him.
Again, that line! It was service to the public that motivated him. Are not the priest our church's foot soldiers? And the missionaries? The bishops are also doing the laundry work? And assuming that they are.. In the convenience of an SUV?
And now, another cause of concern (from inquirer.net):

There are 2 letters of apology that caught the nation's interest over the past days. One is from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and one, from Rafa Santos.
CBCP was caught in a controversy over bishops requesting SUVs and Rafa Santos over his tactless remark regarding cat food for theatre people. Here's the full text of their letters (as well, my illogical outburst):

Courtesy of inquirer online, I read what our good bishops' responses to the SUV controversy they are in:
Davao Archbishop Fernando Capalla:
I don’t know why they take it against us and make it appear scandalous.
Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar:
(1) There are other beneficiaries who are not from the Catholic Church.
(2) Is it because of the bishops’ position on the RH bill?
(3) The CBCP’s individual members are “directly” answerable to the Pope. CBCP itself cannot sanction erring bishops.
movie review: transformers

I haven't watched the movie. I guess I'm not one of the core market this movie is cathering to. I can discuss some other time stories that I prefer to see. But who wants to know? haha :) Anyway, going back.. My two good friends saw it and have some things to say about the film. With their permission, I am posting their reviews.
First is from Ninjaman, our head writer in many of the TV shows the past years. This is from his blog "Songs of the Salamander":
With Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Michael Bay shows us that he doesn't really need a story, character development, or any of those things a person usually looks for (consciously or unconsciously) in a movie after his twelfth birthday. All Michael Bay seems to need are lots of robots beating the living shit out of each other, some hokey teen drama, and a smattering of that AMURIKA, FUCK YEAH! attitude. I didn't appreciate the teen drama since I never cared about Sam Witwicky anyway, not even in the Generation 1 cartoons. I didn't appreciate the America worship for obvious reasons. But I did appreciate the robots. Because Transformers have always been about the robots and their ridiculous war.

We should have started "Squid", a tattoo magazine but i don't know what happened that it didn't push through (yet). This is a draft of the editorial I was writing for the maiden issue. It was titled "The Birth of Squid". It is now "Squidless".
How do squids give birth to another squid? The male and female squids ____ their brains out then natural-biological process forms the zygote inside the womb? And then this fertilize ovum upon conception now develops and eventually birth their so-called offspring? Assuming that I get the jargon right, do we give a ____?

coffee and cigarettes. news and perspective. monotony and the bang!
whatever that means.
this is of course another attempt to say hello to the world. and the hope that this world will also say hi.
mainstream movies and indie films, showbiz and politics, TV networks and theatre, broadsheets and magazine, news wire and the boob tube, sports and entertainment, apple and ps3, gadgets and technology, photography and dslr, netizens and the real world, arts and philosophy, culture and religion, beauty and madness, happiness and despair, being and nothingness.
